autopsy
some days i want to dig up the corpse of us
i go so far as to
scrabble at the dirt a little
it gets under my fingernails
dust stains my cheeks like a memory
my arms get exhausted
before i have more than scratched the surface
some nights i sleep on our grave
nothing is yet carved
into our tombstone
i think that it
is because i still believe
a little
in the afterlife
